Also, I´ve never been greeted with so many kisses on the cheek from guys before in my life! Coming from Denmark this is not something that I am used to and I got a bit puzzled the first times I experienced this kind of greeting, but let me just say that it feels pretty darn nice! It´s a really charming gesture and makes you feel elegant and feminine.
After quoting a 79 year old Icelandic woman living in LA about the differences between north American and Icelandic dating methods or lack thereof, one conclusion is that women are sexually liberated in Iceland and the most advanced feminism in the world is in Iceland. The author theorizes that these two facts might be related to the enigmatic dating culture and the Icelandic (none) love life.
Mating and sexual habits in Iceland are certainly a topics worth exploring, so is the equal right’s movement and the variety of family structures. Icelanders start having children at a age and have an extended network of family for support. The author also touches on the Icelandic liberal family structure quoting a CNN report (below). There is no concept of a broken family it’s normal for families to be mixed up with a large group of children and stepchildren in sibling groups. The single parent family structure is common and not at all considered to be an odd one out. It’s also normal for women to be pregnant or have babies while still in university and they are supported by the extended family, babies are most welcome into all sorts of families.
Iceland´s geographical position has previously made the country very isolated from influences from other societies. This also seems to be the case when it comes to using up-to-date services while dating in Iceland. I am just JOKING! Dating in Iceland is not carried out through single gloves speed dating. Although this is a funny idea!
There is indeed quite a lot to do in Reykjavík compared to towns of similar size, but still the options are limited compared to big cities, the weather is often harsh and things are pretty expensive. None of this is conducive to dating. But the second reason is perhaps more important. People do talk.
The music scene in Iceland is just amazing! Honestly, this is also one of my major motivations of moving to Iceland. Maybe you´ve already heard about some Icelandic music , for instance Björk, Ásgeir Trausti, Sigur Rós or Gus Gus? I think they are all freaking good! Additionally, there are just sooooooo many other spectacular diverse music actions going on in Iceland throughout the week both free and/or low priced.
I have just recently moved to Iceland. I’ve flown approximately 7,555 km from Denmark to Iceland for the 6th time in my life. This time I am staying for a longer time and I will therefore be picking up my previous fun dating experiences in Iceland. Before doing so, I´ll give you my very best knowledge about dating in Iceland as a foreigner.
Carly Braddock: Up it s own arse- not allowed to take photos, music more trendy than good, hoxton haircuts abound. Come for posing more than fun.
In the film 8766 Of Snails and Men, 8767 recently shown at Bíó Paradís, a Frenchman comes to a small Romanian town and asks a local girl out on a date. 8775 No, 8776 she says. 8775 Why not? 8776 he asks. 8775 This is a small town, 8776 she answers. 8775 There is nothing to do here and besides, people talk. 8776
